Why Would Anyone Want to do a Cleanse?

Gut Health | Hormones | Menopause | Digestion | Detox

Right now, 88% of us are metabolically unwell.

Obesity and Diabetes continue to rise.

And ladies, none of that helps us journey through Menopause.

What are some of the signs of Metabolic Dysfunction?

Are you struggling with belly fat and fatigue, inflammation and brain fog, and 3pm sugar cravings? Do you struggle to get out of bed in the morning? Do you reach for coffee for energy? Are you snacky in the evening? Are you not as mentally sharp as you’d like? Is your waist circumference greater than 35”? Do you get frequent colds? Are your joints achy? These are just some of the indications that your metabolism isn’t functioning as well as it could.

These are early warning signs that your body is trying to tell you something.

And we need to listen.

Too often we only change when forced to, and sometimes not even then.

When your body starts to become resistant to insulin, your health starts to suffer.

  • It becomes difficult to release weight.

  • It becomes difficult to stay energized.

  • It becomes difficult to be focused.

  • It becomes difficult to eat healthy.

  • It becomes difficult to get really good sleep.

  • It becomes difficult to enjoy movement.

Simply put, when we’re tired it becomes increasingly difficult to make healthy food and lifestyle choices. We sleep less, crave more, and the cycle continues over and over until we are faced with serious health concerns.

Cleansing can be an effective tool to help us support our bodies so that we can start to manage our weight successfully, we can start to have stable moods and sustainable energy throughout the day and we can start to experience mental clarity as the brain fog lifts.

That’s how we revive and really thrive.

So, let’s dive right in and see if we can take the mystery and uncertainty away. Let’s look at what a cleanse is all about.

In reality, we shouldn’t need to ‘detox’ or cleanse at all – our bodies are set up to do that on a 24/7 basis thanks to our liver and filtration organs.

So, why do a cleanse then?

Good question.

Here’s the thing; we live in a world that is chaotic, busy, and demanding. This modern world comes with pressures and conveniences that aren’t always the best for us.

We deal with daily stressors (think deadlines, financial worries, kids and aging parents, health concerns, time constraints) and have far too much accessible fast and nutrient-poor food that is constantly being marketed to us, sometimes under the guise of being healthy. We gulp our food which affects our digestion. We consume 152 lbs of sugar and 133 lbs of refined carbs per year. We sleep poorly, we sit too much and we walk too little. We rely on cars, elevators and escalators.

There are so many time savers, household gadgets and appliances that we use daily, and while they may save us time, they also come with a price – we aren’t moving enough. Then we hit the gym and move the wrong way. Our digestion becomes stagnant. We inhale pollutants, we internalize emotions and over time toxins begin to build up faster than we can eliminate them. And all of these are stressors on the body.

It’s Springtime which represents regeneration, growth and hope, and in my opinion, the very best time to do a cleanse. It can be so helpful to take some pressure off of our hardworking detox organs, like the liver and allow it some time to focus on doing some deep cleaning rather than just stop-gap or daily housecleaning. We develop awareness around which foods nourish us better. And we start to cultivate routines that support and strengthen our bodies and minds.

This is how we can start to get our personal HEALTH HOUSE in order; how we can start to build resiliency and strength and vitality.

Please remember - a focused detox is NOT a long-term strategy and it’s not suitable for everyone. ALWAYS check with your health care practitioner to ensure it’s wise for you to do a cleanse.

As a Holistic Nutritionist, I prefer cleanses that focus on WHOLE FOODS rather than supplements. Supplements have their place, but when I’m cleansing, I try to avoid anything extra the body needs to process other than quality nutrients from real food. And, I like to pair it with gentle movement and supportive lifestyle elements.

If you recognize that you may be in a rut and need to try something different this Spring, if you want to reboot your metabolism and support your body, if you like the idea of daily accountability in a private FB group, and want a fully-guided program with a comprehensive LIVE Group Kick-Off Call (and Wrap-Up Call), detailed Daily Protocol, Guidebook, 2-week Menu Plan, Shopping List and over 50 whole food Recipes, then look no further.
