HOW to BREAK-UP with SUGAR (without feeling deprived)

I’ve always believed that the fastest way to learning anything is to immerse yourself. That’s why I put my kids in French immersion. They were in an environment where they learned from someone who already knew how to speak French AND could support them as they went along.

The same is true for creating new habits.

If you want to figure out how to break-up with sugar, then the fastest way to learn how to do it is by working with someone who already has those skills. It’s like walking across a bridge instead of going the long way around.

And the reason for that is because we need the knowledge, but we also need the support to create new habits. When we struggle, it’s reassuring to know that someone is there to help us through and to keep us on track. And that’s because on the tough days we can easily fall victim to our old habits and old ways of thinking.

Our inner voice loves to lead us down the path of sabotage. I love this quote (no idea who said it though):

Your body can stand almost anything.
It’s your mind that you have to convince!

That’s why an immersive experience can be really helpful. It doesn’t allow the mind to get sidetracked.

Take sugar for example. It’s so addictive that we resist any attempts to reduce or eliminate it. Our reward centre is activated and we feel pleasure. Over time we need to eat more and more of it to achieve that same ‘high’. We become hardwired to crave sugar. You can see how it becomes increasingly more difficult to resist it. And marketing makes sure of that.

Sugar can be inflammatory in the body and may lead to a number of chronic diseases or increase the risk of developing them. It messes with our hormones (take note women!). It messes with our liver, heart, pancreas, and brain. It messes with our gut microbiome. It really messes with our health in so many ways. And we need to learn how to manage our consumption.

  • It would be helpful if we knew where sugar is hiding. The problem is, sugar goes by so many different names, it’s difficult to keep up. It’s like the spy that has a 45 different aliases. Yup, sugar has at least that many different names. Consequently, we may be consuming more sugar than we may realize, even when we think we are eating ‘healthy’.

  • It would be helpful if we knew what would help stabilize our blood sugar.

  • It would be helpful if we knew which foods trigger a spike and crash and which ones would help minimize that reaction.

  • It would be helpful if we knew tips and tricks to keep us on track.

When we struggle (because it IS hard at first), we are more likely to give up if we don’t have support. That inner voice starts to chip away at our willpower and resolve. That’s when we need to tap into our support system. That’s when we need to know how to shut off that flow of negativity. And we need to know that willpower is less important than we think.

So, how do we break up with sugar?

We learn.

We find someone who has the knowledge we need and we immerse ourselves. We make sure we can get the support we need.

I’m offering a FREE webinar on March 20th to talk all about struggling with sugar cravings and learning how to reduce or eliminate your sugar intake, even if you believe you need willpower and don’t have any, but really want food freedom and control over those nagging cravings.

It’s not about deprivation. It’s not about perfection. It’s about knowledge + support.
