WooHoo, Christmas is almost here!

And if you're anything like I used to be, the first thing you cut when you're feeling time pressured is exercise. And the second thing you cut when you're feeling tired is ... exercise.

I don't need to tell you all the reasons why exercise is important because if you're reading this blog you already know them.

You probably have heard this a thousand times but it's so important. We need to manage our stress and movement is a great way to do that. Sedentary lifestyles put us at risk for loss of movement and range of motion degeneration and at higher risk of developing mental health issues, obesity, sleep issues, and so much more. We simply feel better when we move and it should be a non-negotiable.

But here's what you may forget ... if you suddenly stop exercising because you get too busy, you have a 57% chance of not starting up again for a very long time.

57%!

That's a recipe for disaster when it comes to your weight loss plans for 2023. That's why I'm offering the 12 Days of Fitmas routine - to keep you in the habit of exercising, even if it is very brief.

Daily movement is a non-negotiable to becoming resilient, strong and healthy. Our bodies were designed to move, to grip, to lift, to push, to pull, to stretch, to squat, and to sweat.

All of these actions help our lymphatic system, our skeletal system, our circulation, our respiratory system, our detoxification system and our muscular system. We need to move every single day, and in fact daily movement is one of the 3 key pillars of robust, resilient health. And all movement is good movement. That means every time you dance in your kitchen or wall-sit while you brush your teeth counts. Your muscle contractions move lymph fluid. Lymph fluid contains infection-fighting white blood cells. We want that fluid circulating.

How do we start?

With baby steps.

This is especially important if you have been more sedentary than you'd like to admit.

The idea is to build gradually and modify where necessary to avoid injury.

Just like the song, this routine is meant to be done every day for the twelve days leading up to and including Christmas Eve.

You'll add in moves each day as we get closer and closer to Christmas. For example, on day three you'll do 3 biceps curls, 2 perfect pushups, and a 1-minute wall sit. You get the idea.

We both know that this limited amount of exercise isn't going to cause instant weight loss, but it will keep your healthy living GOALS at the forefront of your mind. That’s the main purpose of the 12 Days of Fitmas Challenge.

Transformation is not a passive process. It requires Intention and Action.

To make it more festive, play your favourite version of the 12 Days of Christmas song and sing along while you're completing the day's challenge. Music can affect your mood and your physical state., so if this one doesn't do it for you, find a different one.

Another way to really help with follow-through is to grab an Accountability Buddy and do the Fitmas Challenge together. The more the merrier.

🎄👟🎄 How to Participate in this Fitmas Challenge

STEP 1: Each day, beginning December 13th, visit my NutriHelpers' Facebook page and look for the Fitmas graphic.

STEP 2: Immediately complete the day's move(s) and post your completion.

Why immediately?

Because let's be honest, if you don't do it right then, you probably won't do it. Me, neither!

Want bonus points? Then post a photo of you completing the day's exercise! Those points add up to Bragging Rights! You put in the work, you get to brag.

STEP 3: Like, comment on and share the post with your friends. Why? Because the more we engage, the more likelihood we will complete the action task. It’s that simple.

STEP 4: If you really want to level up your Fitmas workout habits, then email me for your own copy of the Fitmas Challenge Companion Workbook, the entire Fitmas Workout Chart, and the "Let's Have a Happy January" tip sheet that includes 4 HIIT workouts.

I look forward to seeing all your amazing Fitmas completion posts!

Happy Fitmas 💛
